Libris Personae Volume 1

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Octavirate Games presents the Libris Personae, a collection of NPCs for your d20 fantasy campaign. Features more than 50 NPCs and enemy creatures ready to use. Use the pre-made scenarios, adventure hooks and back story or invent your own. Non-player characters are the backbone of a good adventure. In many cases they are the driving force behind the campaign. Villains, allies, rivals and bystanders separate role-playing from war gaming. No matter how many NPCs populate a setting, however, there are always more personas waiting to be discovered.

That is where the Libris Personae comes in. This book provides new characters for any d20 fantasy campaign. Full write-ups allow you to flesh out new heroes and villains applicable to any number of scenarios and optional-rules support allows you to adapt characters quickly to your rules variant of choice. Most importantly, these characters serve your needs as the game master. Alone or in groups they are ready to stand against or walk beside the PCs in whatever realm you choose.

Includes:

• The Demon Cult of the Gnolls: An insidious plot to bring the gnolls into dominion over the world begins with the sinister ambition of a wizened gnoll cult leader and his abominable half-breed servants. The new chosen one of the gnolls’ Demon Lord has arisen, even though his predecessor is on the loose and has made allies with three humanoid adventurers.

• The Sellswords: Is this all-female bardic performing troupe sinister or just slinky? Wives, priests and paladins alike are concerned about these burlesque beauties and their lavish performances. Concerns over decency, however, may be the least of their worries.

• The Scaleblades: A pack of reptilian humanoids is easy pickings for most adventurers. Except when the reptiles are adventurers themselves. The Scaleblades are bounty hunters without peer. Their draconic patron has an agenda all his own and some of the most potent magical treasures in the world lie in the middle of it all.

• The Vortaelen Cartography League: Travel the world (and several others) with the most successful multi-planar exploration society known to man or beast. Thirteen prominent cartographers stand ready to aid your players on their quests or stand in their way, depending on the circumstance.

• Enemies and Adversaries: A half-demon treant seeks to bear his poisoned fruit, no matter how many creatures have to die to feed his twisted young. A loyal imperial soldier is betrayed and seeks vengeance with his cursed bride. The forbidden love-child of a celestial and an imprisoned medusa looks out into a world filled with danger and possibility.

• And More… New magical items, spells, deities and creatures work with the NPCs or on their own.

This 104 page PDF provides you with full character descriptions, including back story, appearance, personality and battle tactics. As always, Octavirate games provides full variant rules support for the d20 system. A handy appendix includes variant rules information for easy genre adaptation: Wounds/Vitality, sanity, defense bonus variant, armor as damage reduction, spell points, honor and taint are all supported alongside the standard 3.5 rules set.

Features art from Ronald Smith, Trent Troop, Greg Sepelak, Hector Haddaway and Rose Tursi. As an added bonus, the Libris Personae features “Destiny Awaits!†a comic by It's Walky and Shortpacked! creator David Willis.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
